继续投资可再生能源, we recently switched on the UK’s largest shopping centre solar installation at Meadowhall, 谢菲尔德.

It was great to see how easily the project progressed through the business. We proved the commercial viability of solar PV at St Stephen’s, 船体, 安装1,100 panels back in 2016 – the UK’s largest shopping centre array at that time. We followed this up with another one at Serpentine Green, Peterborough, in 2017. And now we’ve fitted the UK’s largest ever shopping centre solar installation on the roof of our retail and leisure flagship, Meadowhall.

The solar array is the latest in a series of environmental innovations at Meadowhall. It became the first shopping centre in the UK to open its own on-site recycling facility in 2004 and then the first to install electric car charging points in 2008, 2014年增加了快速充电桩. It was also the first UK retail property to achieve a BREEAM Excellent In-Use sustainability rating for building management. The centre’s pioneering borehole and rainwater harvesting system saved 11 million litres of mains water last year and efficiency improvements have cut landlord energy use at Meadowhall by 26% since 2009, 为居住者节省1英镑.900万美元，减少碳排放.

It’s a pity that this financial support for renewables has now ended. 然而, with the cost of solar technology expected to reduce further, we will carry on investigating PV opportunities both across our managed portfolio and on new developments. 

We’ll also keep working towards our goal for 100% of all electricity we purchase to come from certified renewable sources by 2020, supporting decarbonisation of the Grid (we’re currently at 97%). And we’ll continue our successful energy efficiency programme, which has substantially reduced our carbon footprint and delivered £14m gross savings for us and our occupiers since 2012. For us, this is all part of creating Places People Prefer.
